After years of on/off globo gym memberships, I was first introduced to CrossFit in late 2008. My now ex-husband learned about it while being deployed overseas as a civilian security contractor. While on leave, he threw some weight on a barbell for me & tried to get me to lift it. I turned around in tears and went back to the treadmill. In June 2009 we moved to Kalispell & I was faced with a choice; back to a globo gym or try something new? I knew only 2 other people in the whole valley, he had left to go back to Afghanistan and I was all alone in this new place with my kids. I went to CrossFit Flathead and chatted with Todd Widman (now at CrossFit HQ), he offered me the Kool Aid and I drank it. I like to say that CrossFit saved my life. I’m a natural introvert & was a stay-at-home mom when we moved here. Without that community at CrossFit, I have no clue how I would have made it. In 2012, he came home from Afghanistan & decided not to go back. We wanted to grow our passion for the gym and opened CrossFit Libertas. I loved building the community & giving back to everyone in helping with their physical & mental health. Unfortunately, we parted ways in 2016 and I was left with the tough decision to close the gym. It weighed on me that I let everyone down, so I ran back to my solitude at regular gyms & the garage. After bouncing around different fitness programs, more Spartan Races, a brief attempt at amateur MMA, and working from my home solo for 3 years; the isolation was getting to be too much. In early 2023, I had 4 or 5 people push me to go back to CrossFit and knew I needed to do something drastic again to get me out of my self-imposed rut. I reached out to Heather L, let her know where I was at physically & emotionally but that I knew CrossFit could save me again. The community at Big Mountain CrossFit is awesome. People from all walks of life, gathering together without ego or judgment to spend an hour of their day improving themselves, even if it’s just to come in a move slowly because you had a bad day, do some mobility, or push to get a 5# PR on your back squat. It makes my soul happy to be here and coach. I know that if things aren’t going well, I can show up to workout in class, be accepted for the mess I am that day, and always leave feeling 10x better.

I discovered CrossFit in 2011 and immediately fell in love with the community of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for health and fitness. The camaraderie, support, and shared dedication inspired me to dive deeper into this incredible world.

In 2013, I began coaching, and it quickly became a true calling. Helping others achieve their goals, witnessing the rewards of hard work, and seeing people trust the process made coaching one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.

By 2015, I took the leap to become an affiliate owner and ran my gym in Snohomish, Washington, for eight wonderful years. My connection to CrossFit, its culture, and the vibrant community meant everything to me. Creating a space where people could grow stronger, healthier, and more confident together was a privilege.

In 2023, my husband decided that after 40 years in education, it was time to retire, I then made the bittersweet decision to sell the gym, and we moved to Montana. Here, I found Big Mountain CrossFit—a new home filled with an encouraging and uplifting community that has welcomed me with open arms.

Every day, I’m grateful to be part of others’ journeys to becoming healthier and stronger. Encouraging, supporting, and growing alongside amazing people is the best way I can imagine spending my days.

Chris Wilson

Coach

Born in lower Alabama, most of my childhood was spent working on farms and
exploring nature. I developed a love for the outdoors at a very early age and it
has only grown with time! My hobbies include Biking, Skiing, Hiking and just
about anything that will get me outside and active. In the fall I enjoy hunting
and you can find me slope side most days during the winter. I’m a firm
believe that that there is no such thing as bad weather……only bad gear and not
being prepared. I thrive on being social and have yet to meet a stranger.

I was first introduced to CrossFit in 2003 while serving in the Military, but did
not develop a passion for fitness until 2008 when I competed in my first CrossFit
competition and began Adventure Racing competitively. I fell in love with the
community and have grown physically, mentally, and spritually from the people
that it has brought into my life.

I first started coaching in 2008 and
have owned / operated / managed a few Boxes throughout the years (both
military and commercial affiliates) and can honestly say that I‘ve never seen a
community as welcoming or as inclusive as the one at BMCF. I first joined the
BMCF family in 2021 and I’m very proud to call it home!

I grew up just outside of Olympia, WA where I grew up on swim team and playing volleyball. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Gonzaga University, then went on to earn my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver in 2009. I now have over thirteen years of experience as a physical therapist working in outpatient orthopedics and sports based clinics.
I originally began CrossFit in 2010 while training for an Ironman distance triathlon. I was looking for a resistance training program that was quick and effective, and that had a more social aspect- I was getting lonely running, biking, and swimming all those training miles by myself! CrossFit was just the ticket. After completing my Ironman I found that I really enjoyed CrossFit and its benefits enough to continue with it as a regular part of my fitness routine. When I was still regularly racing in triathlons, I saw some really cool improvements in my running and cycling from adding CrossFit into my program. Now I’m a very much more recreational athlete, but still highly value the strength benefits I’ve gained from CrossFit.
I have long thought that coaching would be a really fun way to combine my love of CrossFit with my background knowledge as a physical therapist, but it took a long time to feel like I had the time to commit to coaching. I finally took the CF-L1 course in December of 2021 and I am enjoying coaching so much!
